Nart-the foodie zogzag tour of hidden delights in Bangkok and other corners in Thailand

Having worked and lived in Bangkok for more than two decades, I found walking along sois or side streets is interesting as each place has a unique charm. The Thai word "zogzag'' is used for this blog to describe the way I explore sois in the capital and other areas in search of delicious food and other interesting things behind them.

Zogzag literally translates as curious (of places, or of knowledge about little-known things) may suit my foot tours of unseen places on small streets. Walking along Bangkok sois brings me to find the best food with cheap or affordable prices. It also helps broaden my knowledge about the history and culture of old communities, markets, temples, shrines and other wonderful places there as well as the way of living of urban dwellers.

Silom Soi 20, opposite Wat Khaek Silom,  has a variety of delicious food, fruit and other goods with  affordable prices.
Wat Sri Maha Uma Devi, known locally as Wat Khaek Silom is packed with local and foreign worshippers every day. The Hindu temple, built during the reign of King Rama IV, is one of Silom attractions.

Thai desserts, priced at 10-20 baht each.

Many authentic Thai dishes are sold at affordable prices. A plate of rice with one topping is 30-35 baht, and 40-45 baht for two toppings. Free drinking water.

  1. Bangkok is one of the most famous tourist cities in the world. Come to Bangkok you will be able to discover the historic sites, the unique culture, the best street food in the world. I believe that you will love Thailand from the first time you come here. Do you have any suggestions about things to do in Bangkok?

  2. Many thanks for your useful comment. It's true Bangkok is popular among holidaymakers. The capital's historic temples, way of living of people and a variety of tasty food are tourist magnets. When visiting ancient places, visitors should pay heed to rules abd warnings at those venues. Inappropriate acts such as climbing ancient ruins, sitting in the lap of a Buddha statue or other disrespectful manners should be avoided. Thais are friendly and kind. Enjoy your trip in this Land of Smiles!

  4. Hi Thien Nguyen. Many thanks for useful comments. I spend time in the morning to explore soi (side street) in Bangkok before going to work. During my days off, I often go with friends whose sons study at the same school as mine to visit old communities or places with delicious food. My Vietnamese friend also joins me. She is very friendly. Thanks again for introducing me the Vietnam Free Tour Programe. Let's visit Thailand again,Thien Nguyen! Best regards.
