Come rain or shine, Wat Traimit draws a huge number of visitors coming to catch a glimpse of a giant gold Buddha statue inside this historic temple in Chinatown, Bangkok every day.

Wat Traimit, officially named Wat Traimit Witthayaram Wora Wiharn, is a royal temple in Samphanthawong district. Dubbed the Temple of the Golden Buddha, the temple houses the world's largest solid gold Buddha image.

ไม่ว่าฝนจะตกหรือแดดจ้าขนาดไหน วัดไตรมิตร ยังคงเป็นสถานที่ยอดนิยมของนักท่องเที่ยวทั้งไทยและต่างชาติ  แต่ละวัน มีนักท่องเที่ยวจำนวนมากเข้าไปชมพระพุทธรูปทองคำสมัยสุโขทัยองค์ใหญ่ที่ประดิษฐาน ในวัดอารามหลวง ย่านไชน่าทาวน์      วัดไตรมิตร  เป็นวัดอารามหลวงชั้นโท ชนิดวรวิหาร อยู่ทางทิศตะวันตกของสถานีรถไฟห้วลำโพง เขตสัมพันธวงศ์  กรุงเทพมหานคร  สิ่งสำคัญที่เป็นแม่เหล็กดึงดูดนักท่องเที่ยวคือ พระพุทธมหาสุวรรณปฏิมากร หรือ "หลวงพ่อทองคำ"  พระพุทธรูปทองคำองค์ใหญ่ที่สุดของโลก มีการบันทึกสถิติลงกินเนสส์บุ๊ค  เป็นที่รู้จักกันอย่างแพร่หลายในชื่อว่า "Golden Buddha''

The three-metre tall Buddha statue, weighing 5.5 tonnes of solid gold, was built during the Sukhothai period. Legend has it that the statue was encased in stucco to prevent looters before the destruction of the Ayutthaya kingdom in 1767. The statue remained among the ruins of Ayuttthaya without attracting attention at the time.  The solid gold was later found when the statue was to be moved to its present location at Wat Traimit in 1955.  The statue was accidentally dropped from a crane. Some of plaster coating chipped off,  revealing the gold surface.

The Golden Buddha or Luang Phor Thong Kham หลวงพ่อทองคำ สร้างในสมัยสุโขทัย ขนาดขององค์พระมีหน้าตักกว้าง 6 ศอก 5 นิ้ว (มากกว่า 2.5 เมตร ความสูง 7 ศอก 1 คืบ 9 นิ้ว (ประมาณ 3.04 เมตร 10 ฟุต) น้ำหนักประมาณ 5.5 ตัน ได้รับการบันทึกไว้ใน The Guinness Book of World Record เมื่อปี พ.ศ. 2534 ว่าเป็นพระพุทธรูปทองคำที่มีขนาดใหญ่ที่สุดในโลก

The gold Buddha image, named Phra Phutta Maha Suwan Patimakon or Luang Phor Thong Kham, is enshrined at the four-storey marble structure Phra Maha Mondop, which also has a museum, the Chinatown heritage centre, and an exhibition hall about the history of the Golden Buddha.   The temple is worth a visit.

Admission fee to the Golden Buddha image is 40 baht, and to the museum 100 baht for adults and 60 baht for children.

How to get to Wat Traimit

Wat Traimit is located on Trimit Road, between Yaowarat Road in Chinatown and Hua Lamphong railway station. It's about 300 metres from MRT subway's Hua Lamphong station.  Visitors could go there on foot from the subway, opposite the railway station, on Rama IV Road.  Cross a bridge to Khao Lam Road direction. Then walk past row commercial buildings on the right side of the road and then turn right at the corner behind a bus stop to Soi Sukon 1 (Sukon 1 alley) to reach Wat Traimit.

Several public buses also pass through the temple: Buses No 4, 25, 40, 53, 73, 507, 529 and 542.

The Old Customs House- European Heritage in Bangkok, a must-see place "ศุลกสถาน" มรดกทางวัฒนธรรมยุโรปในกรุงเทพมหานคร

People boarding passenger boats along the Chao Phraya River may raise eyebrows when seeing an old building sitting on the eastern bank of the river. They may want to know the history of this Western-style building.  Built in 1890 during the reign of King Rama V, this place is formerly the customs house (known in Thai as Sulakasathan). It was considered the gateway to the country. The customs office later moved to Khlong Toey in 1949, and the building was later used as residences of staffers of Bang Rak fire station.

 In 2005, the Treasury Department, which owns the land, granted a 30-year contract to a private firm to renovate the site and build a boutique hotel. About 60 families of firemen later vacated the venue to pave way for the development plan.
 The Neo-Palladian-style building, designed by Italian architect Joachim Grassi, is a popular photo-taking site for photographers, pre-wedding studio staff and tourists. The architecture of this building and historical value is a tourist magnet.
The riverside historical building is located on Soi Charoen Krung 36 in Bang Rak district, where the French Embassy is also situated. The street is also named "Rue de Brest''' marking the long diplomatic relations between France and Thailand (Siam). The venue is near Oriental pier.  It's a short walk from the street to the old customs house, which never fails to stun visitors.

ผู้โดยสารเรือล่องแม่น้ำเจ้าพระยาอาจจะรู้สึกฉงนกับอาคารเก่าๆริมแม่น้ำแ่ห่งนี้ และคงอยากรู้ประวัติความเป็นมาของตึกสถาปัตยกรรมแบบตะวันตกที่ขนาบข้างด้วยตึกทันสมัย  อาคารเก่าที่เห็นนี้คือ "ศุลกสถาน"  หรือกรมศุลกากรในปัจจุบันนั่นเอง สร้างขึ้นในสมัยรัชกาลที่ 5  เป็นสถานที่เก็บภาษีสินค้าขาเข้าที่เรียกว่า ภาษีร้อยชักสาม หรือโรงภาษี  เป็นด่านศุลกากรที่พ่อค้าต่างชาติเข้ามาติดต่อ สถาปนิกอิตาลี โยอาคิม กรัสซี เป็นผู้ออกแบบอาคาร 3 ชั้นหลังนี้ มุขตรงกลางมี 4 ชั้น สถาปัตยกรรมของอาคารเป็นแบบผสมผสานระหว่างนีโอคลาสสิกกับปัลลาดีโอ
ต่อมากรมศุลกากรย้ายไปอยู่แถวคลองเตย  สถานีดับเพลิงบางรักจึงได้เข้ามาใช้อาคารหลังนี้   ในปี พ.ศ.2548 กรมธนารักษ์ ซึ่งเป็นเจ้าของที่ดินเนื้อที่ประมาณ 5 ไร่เศษ ขอคืนพื้นที่เพื่อนำไปพัฒนา  โดยมีบริษัทเอกชนได้สัญญาในการบูรณะอาคารอายุร่วมร้อยกว่าปี พร้อมกับสร้างโรงแรมในบริเวณนี้อีกด้วย
อาคารเก่าที่ทรงคุณค่าทางประวัติศาสตร์ตั้งอยู่ที่ซอยเจริญกรุง 36 เขตบางรัก กรุงเทพมหานครค่ะ  อยู่ในซอยเดียวกันกับสถานทูตฝรั่งเศส และใกล้ๆ กับท่่าน้ำโอเรียนเต็ล   น่าไปเที่ยวชมมากค่ะ

A main building of the Old Customs House has been closed. The building and two adjacent buildings were occupied by Bang Rak fire station after the customs office moved to Khlong Toey.  อาคารหลักของศุลกสถาน หรือ โรงภาษีร้อยชักสาม ในอดีต เป็นที่ทำการของสถานีดับเพลิงบางรักและที่พักของครอบครัวเจ้าหน้าที่ดับเพลิงหลังจากกรมศุลกากรย้ายไปอยู่ที่เขตคลองเตย ปัจจุบันตัวอาคารปิดปรับปรุง ไม่อนุญาตให้ถ่ายรูปภายใน
